The Ultimate Guide To Building a Versatile Wardrobe
With more companies allowing business casual dress codes, many of our customers are struggling to create stylish jacket and trouser combinations.
So we decided to put together the simple guide below on how to build a wardrobe with a few versatile pieces that work well as separates, and how to mix and match them.
OUR 3 GOLDEN "RULES" FOR JACKETS / TROUSER COMBINATIONS
1. Always use textured fabrics
The fabric you choose is key to making separates look intentional. Fabrics like high-twist wool, hopsack, linen, flannel, or brushed cotton give jackets and trousers a unique look, unlike standard worsted wool, which is mostly used in formal suits and can look mismatched as separates.
2. Go for a soft silhouette
To have a wardrobe that works for both formal and business casual occasions, choose jackets with soft shoulders and construction.
More structured jackets are better for formal suits, while softer ones can easily transition between formal and casual settings.
3. Stick to versatile colours
For a wardrobe that’s easy to mix and match, go for classic colours like blues, greys, browns, and greens. Some of the best pieces include a midnight blue jacket, charcoal trousers, and light beige jackets or trousers. These basics allow for endless combinations so you can always look sharp.
